I was looking for something unrelated on the Griffin website the other day (they make cases and stuff for Apple products) and they will soon be releasing this thing that you plug into the diagnostic port of your car which you can check emissions, error codes and other stuff using your iPhone.

This got me interested so I did a quick Google search and as an alternative you can buy a Revs app by Devtoaster for £25 (bit pricey I thought!) and a wireless diagnostic thing to work with it off eBay or wherever - now the Revs app from what I could make out gives you a lot more info and lets you test sensors and things like that.

Has anyone ever done any diagnostic stuff with cars using their iPhone? Seriously considering getting it, works with OBD-II ports so I think all cars from late 1990s onwards.

There are a few bluetooth obd readers, same thing.

Better off getting a manufacturer specific one that plugs into laptop imo.

Using the iPhone just seems like a gimmick, give me a laptop to do it on any day. Vagcom owns btw, although obviously it's useless for vaux.

That's just for the app - you still have to buy the hardware which is about £70 off eBay.

The lowest they go for is 7.50, might as well save time and get a 12 quid one.

One of the Porsche mags did a group test recently. I'll try and remember to dig out their verdict when I get home.

There's one available for the focus rs as well and most say it's even better than the tried and tested scanguage II.
