"The distinctive black and white car was specially built for the sport of drifting, in which drivers perform controlled slides around a track."

No such thing as control.

Probs had a good excuse, wasn't aware it was stolen and bought it for cash to strip, etc. hence the coppers still appealing for people seeing it actually being taken.

Publicity stunt. Who steals a car, takes bits off it but then leaves them in the car and run off?

Thing is, the Police will have to do cross-force enquiries - cctv checks at fuel stations, investigate what the arrested persons have said etc. Bearing in mind they locked up 4, and will have had to interview them, search their addresses, etc, they will have used several hours of their 24hr custody clock up, and the outstanding wnquires will not be able to be completed in a matter of a few hours. Therefore, release them on bail, conduct the enquiries whilst they are out, and then deal with them on their return. Very few people fail to answer bail, besides which it will be the local force to Santa Pod which investigates, rather than where the car was found. Alot of behind-the-scenes work to do, ready for bail answering.

Not an unusual event - most offenders are bailed during the enquiry, unless the enquiry is complete or straightforward and can be done while they are in the cells.

I'm going to carry on being pedantic as I'm having a slow day, look at the purple line: http://www.openstreetmap.org/index.html?mlat=52.238453&mlon=-0.595433&zoom=15&layers=B000FTF

Even Wikipedia agrees me me: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Podington

Copied and pasted straight out of Encarta yo.
