i think one of the differences in x18 and z18 is the head gasket is made from different stuff

or at least this was the case when i had a astra g 1.4 and couldnt find out if it was x or z14

X18XE1 is a cable throttle and Z18XE is fly by wire. Don't know of the other differences though.

i believe the term fly by wire is misused when it comes to cars, fly by wire is used to describe a plane where controls are electronic driven rather then traditional hydraulics

When i trained as a vehicle technician/mechanic during my apprentiship i got taught the term fly by wire, where rather than the throttle body butterfly flap being controlled by ur foot and a throttle cable an electric steppamotor controls the flap and ur throttle pedal is a sensor which detects thottle pedal posistion which then the ecu uses this info to control throttle body flap movement and fuelling etc
hope this helps

Tigger wheel is inside the block on the z18xe rather than on the end of the crank. Like the x18xe1

both x18xe1 and z18xe are belt driven z engine is drive by wire x engine is cable throttle

the z18xe is 123 bhp too not the circa 110bhp in the x18xe1
