My friend has a iPhone 4 on Orange, I have a iPhone 3Gs on Vodafone. We want to swap phones (with money her way).

Is it easy enough to unlock them?

I have been told this can be very bad for the phone as the jailbreaks don't move with the firmware, or something like that.

My iphone4 is 100x more useful now that its jailbroken. The jailbreaks are usually released fairly soon after the firmware updates.

I couldn't survive without having my iPhone jailbroken now. Just so many little touches that make the phone so much easier to use.

shit loads of themes which change the layouts, icons etc.
ways on how to modify the lockscreen, the home page with pictures of your choice.
you can change the fonts.
change the names of folders.
(you can even change the icons to ones you can create)

theres ways on how to increase the number of icons on each page.
you can increase the number of items you can store in a folder to as much as you want.

all apps and games are free plus there are a lot more which apple dont approve.

there are a LOT more things you can do.

Dont get me wrong thats all good and well, but not one thing in that list makes me want to jailbrake mine, i wouldnt find any of that a benefit and would make me not live without having mine jailbroken

each to there own...

I needed a sat nav for work and instead of paying 65 quid for tomtom europe i got it free via installous.

Apple have restricted the phone that much theres not much else you can do apart from call and text and buy stuff from itunes.
If anybody just wants the basic crap then why not just buy a shitter and save money, imo.

I use my phone for:

Texting
Calling
Email
Ipod
iTunes remote
and various Apps

It does everything that i need it to do out of the box, im by no means a fan boy, but in all the years ive had phones, gone through the symbian era tinkering around with them it just works out of the box and i dont have to do anything to it.

Main thing I have jailbroken it for is a different SMS system, and IMO the normal one is shit. Things like infinifolders, SBS settings, winterboard etc make the phone do what it should be able to do, not what apple decide .

Only thing worth jailbreaking an iPhone for nowadays is the free personal hotspot.

Dont forget the iPhone 4 also uses a micro sim, so you would both need a new sim card each.

Ugh, told her to forget it in the end...

She phoned Orange and they said it would take 2 weeks, she has to send the phone to them... WTF? So she went in store and they recommended a shop down the high-street which quoted her £70. She's been in various Orange stores now and all saying it has to be sent off...

Really annoying TBH.
