does a 1.4 8 valve have fast acceleration for a 1.4?

just my mate has a 106 XSI and it seems so slow compared to my car on acceleration even though it has 100 + BHP

My mum's first corsa was a 1.4 8v and was terrible performance wise. Going up a hill with foot fully down it would loose speed from 60 to 55 whether you wanted it to or not.

My 1.2 16v seems a load better performace wise and a lot nippier -especially in 3rd, 4th and 5th.

This probably has nothing to do with what you've asked!

quite interesting cause my car seems very very nippy for a 1.4 up hills are no problems at all. Ive done one 0 - 60 test everything standard on it 10.2 secs up a slight hill.

Theres an old air field by me and myself and about 5 of my mates mess about down there with our cars and mine can beat the pants off of my mates 106 XSI

Do you have an MPI 1.4 or SPI? What model is it? Chances are itll be the 60bhp variant which I cant see you beating your mates XSi unless its cream crackered.

What XSi are we talking? There the old, old shape which is a 1.3 - but still nippy, then theres the 1.4 and 1.6 (both 8v) pre cat, then the 1.4 and 1.6 catted (slightly slower, these were obviously K reg +) and finaly theres the new shape 1.6. To be honest I would have thought that all of the XSi's would beat a 1.4 Corsa. Corsas generaly weigh around 820Kg and so do XSi's so with the XSi pushing more power it clearly has the advantage. Maybe your mate can't drive swap him ago and see what happens.
Just on the sublect of 1.4 8v's, I used to have an AX GT, it had a big perforamance carb on it, an exhaust, 4 into 1 and a K&N and it would stay with a VTS to 60/70Mph Thats what you get with 105Bhp and the car weighing 720Kg!!

Your Corsa weighs about 850-900kgs.

The engine is 82bhp and not 75bhp.

so would my car be the MPI or SPI? i think it is the one with 82 BHP but not sure

You have a kerb weight and a gross weight. The kerb weight if you have a look in Haynes is stated. Gross weight is the payload of the vehicle with passengers, luggage etc.

a corsa 1.4 8 valve is more nippy than a 1.4 16 valve 0 - 60 so i would have beaten ur mates XSI aswell

my mate cant take his XSI over 107 on the same stretch of runway we race on so even past 60 mph my car is faster

u sure on that mate? the official figures are:

Corsa 1.416v SRi 0-60 = 10.5
Corsa 1.4 8v 0-60 = 11.5

But yours prob a bit quicker as mine is quicker than 10.5! LOL

Cause dont 4get Sri got closer ratio gear box etc!

i remember a post a while back saying the 1.4 8 valve is faster than the 16 valve 0-60 because higher torque? my 0-60 was just above 10 secs but up a slight hill completely standard engine. i wanna do 0 - 60 on the runway cause its flat but at the mo my car isnt running to well so dont wanna push it til i find out wots wrong.
