When I took the Corsa off the road at the start of the year. It was only ment to be for a couple of weeks, so my mum kindly gave me her MG to use when the Corsa was getting worked on. But a few weeks turned into nearly a year, and the MG started to get a bit neglected with me just jumping in and out of it with overalls on.

The Car is an MG ZR 1.4 105+, 2003. It has the half leather interior, sideskirts and 17" straights as standard. But thats all. Didnt come with electric windows, mirrors, front fogs ect. Also has drum brakes at the rear and shitty solid discs at the front which ment brake fade was a bastard on it

Couldnt find any pics of it on my computer. This one from Google will do.

So the 1.4 started to leak quite a bit of oil from the rocker cover, the brakes were shit because they are solid discs and the car was in need of a good clean.

I had 2 Rover 200 Vi's which were to be stripped and scrapped. I took both the engines out of the Rovers, both disc brake back axles, front brakes, and the electric window motors and wiring looms for them.

One of the Rovers stripped

Once the Rovers were stripped I could get the MG in and start doing some work on it. The night before I took it off the road i had a little bump

Bent the back axle Didnt matter because it was getting changed anyway.

The new disc brake back axle fitted, with new discs and pads.

As the 1.4 that was in it had an oil leak and was quite slow, I decided to do a conversion to the MG as I had the 2 engines out of the Rovers. They are 1.8 16v VVC engines with 145bhp.

So I set about removing the engine from the MG.

Once the engine was out, i set about removing the gearbox and flywheel from the old 1.4 engine as I wanted to use that gearbox on the new 1.8. I also fitted a new clutch, timing belt, alt belt, p/s belt and service kit.

The MG's do come standard with a newer style of this engine with 160bhp, one of the main differences is the throttle body which is larger on the ZR engine. So I sourced a throttle body from an MG ZR 160. The pic shows the difference in them.

Once that was done, it was time to get the engine in. I didnt get any pics of it when it was going in because my hands were full

This is how its currently looking as of yesterday night.

Everything is done except for the wiring, Im going to the local Rover garage to get the wiring diagrams tomorrow so it will hopefully be running tomorrow night. I will keep this updated as I do more work to it

I love these. I may be getting another zs soon (3rd one)

imo the vvc is a very good engine. people will slag them off with "watch the head gasket" comments but if cared for correctly and not thrashed on cold then they're bullet proof. keep it up

Ive had one with a tomcat engine in it, They are good fun but imo too heavy a lump. Plus as stated above, I had the 2 vvc engines anyway so its not costing me money!

MarkSport- Zs's handle superbly for a standard car, same with this.

Yeah most people slag them for HG failure, but most of the people who slag them havent owned one before.

As you soid if there looked after properly there fine. The 1.4 that came out the ZR had donr 60k, had its hole booted everyday and never let me down once. Alright it was leaking oil from the rocker cover but thats fuck all.
