Bottom end on the X14 and X16 engine are different, so u can either buy a new bottom end (bout £600) or buy a 2nd hand engine for about £400, or buy a brand new one for about £900 from Vauxhall.

It is a straight swap for the engines.

Lee Mitchell can do this conversion for you for about £250 i think.

Thats the C16XE engine (109bhp, plastic inlet, early GSi lump). Yeah. Donna's engines, well, stripped completly at the mo (see my site under D5NNA for pics) so we had to look at all the possibilities. THat may be with a staff discount though!

Lee Mitchell is in Kent.

i'm thinking about the C16XE engine, then turbo charging it later on!!! BUT turbo charging it costs £££ BIG TIME, so might leave it

Turbo isn't worth it on these engines. Much better to TB them. Sounds much better too :-)

Yeah, Turobs on the 16v engines are a no no unless your prepared to spend literally thousands and thousands of ££ on them. They make the engine very un realiable.

TB = Throttle Bodies

TB are basically 4 small trumpets that direct air straight into the cyclinder head. It removes all the induction system (i.e airbox, and on the 16v, the 4 metal manifolds). Air can flow staight into the head giving the best power possible. Then you can flow the TB ports to match the head ports exactly so the air going into the engine is as smooth as possible.
TB Engine, the Throttle bodies are them small silver things at the back of the engine. This is Andy Hamiltons 220bhp 1.6 16v Corsa

This is my engine a few years ago. You can see (excluding the purple engine cover) how different it is. The air goes through the induction kit, down below the grey metal bits and accross to the passanger side of the car, up, into the front of that metal manifold, to the back, down, and then goes back into the engine. About 1.2metres worth of travel.

Heads are different aswell 1600 has larger ports 1400 had to be kept small to retain torque levels

Only the c16xe head is different the x16/14xe heads are identical parts on EPC.

Yeah geez. its the coolent tank. It had to be re-located, dunno why. Lot of work thoug cos the pipes have to go from the passanger side of the rad, accross the front of the engine, and into the coolent bottle,

Coolant tank has to be moved to make space around the RHS air horn. If it was still there, it would impede air flow. But when T499's finally back together, my coolant tank will be sitting in another different place!

where does then airflow come from when your running TBs?

i mean is air sucked straight through the trumpets?
