Old laptop's getting well past its best and my dad just spotted this on the telly.

Not really up on computer specs etc. so just wondering what people's thoughts are.

It'll be used for internet mainly, maybe a bit of photoshop and office. Just want something to give us a few years reliable use really, is this it?

Decent spec for a home laptop. If you want something to last, get something with warranty such as a Dell.

Nonono, AMD are out of the game these days, get AT LEAST an Intel Dual Core, a Core i3/i5 would be better!

Acer have picked up their game in recent years though

whats wrong with AMD nowadays? I used to swear by them over any intel offering! Don't really have much choice with a mac though...

AMD used to be good as they were 90% of the performance for 75% of the cost. Seems like they can't compete nearly as well any more.

Agree with this. I always went AMD and convinced many friends to go AMD for many many years but it seems its in very specific processors where as before it was just a across the board more bang for your buck. I can't fault much from Intel since the Core2 days.
