Sorry, another thread which is basically about regions but I need to canvas some opinion on this.

We collect post code data via the Location Services page on the top bar. This is just the first half of a postcode, which is used to generate that page and also locate your region. The data is also anonymised and displayed visually on the Regional Statistics link on that page.

(example - http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/regionstats.php?fid=38 )

Now in order to make the regions stronger, it would make sense to reveal the usernames of everyone who is in those places.

My question is simple - would this be appropriate?

I wouldn't see it as being inappropriate tbh. It's not as if it pinpoints your exact house. But implementing software that you can opt out of it would clear up any grey areas!

sounds okay, your not giving away full personal addresses and I would say most people have their "region" on their profile anyway.

I can't see it being an issue as 90% of people show their location anyway
I'd probably be doing it asking for consent just to cover myself though

They won't - the only change I'm proposing is that the list of users will be available next to the numbers on this page -

No issue at all for me. Default that it shows your username, opt out if you're really worried about it.

So do I archie, my Corsa got broken into when I was sleeping less than 8 meters away from it, open window and everything. And I live in aparently one of the poshest areas in the country.

It'd be alright if it didn't pinpoint my location anymore than Windsor say...

Sounds good to me, my profile says Oxford and all that is going to do is say that I am somewhere in Oxfordshire. It would be quite good to have a list of people that are in the same local areas as you as then you can ask about much more local stuff.

Because i live in a quiet dead end street, i'm not talking like 10/11 at night late, like 2/3/4AM i've heard cars come in and out my street.
