Hai...
Story goes my mate has been stuck with a 1.0 Corsa C for the past 7 years! Clutch has gone, so he's decided it might be a good time to upgrade. His dad wants him to get another brand new basic Corsa, but, I know he's always secretly liked Evo's (although he's not really into cars!)
I started trying to convince him to get one, and he's interested. I said you're probably looking at £7-8k starting price then on to around £12k+ for something decent, depending on the model of course. He asked about running costs I said just double everything! And expect to pay around a grand for insurance. I was just guessing roughly...
Basically, can anyone tell us what to look out for, and maybe post some decent ones on PH?
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?s=840
I'd say up to £15k for an absolute minter, but if we can keep it a bit lower then great. Just need to post the guy a few ideas
Spank you all.

From a 1.0 corsa to an Evo?
How long till he wraps it round a tree?
Also, might wanna treble everything. I wouldn't say the evo will use twice as much petrol than a corsa.

Service costs would deffo be more like quadrouble costs of a 1.0 corsa, fuel economy would be more than doube in a corsa, even daft things like tyres are going to have to be factored in.
But, yeh, tell him to buy one & have a laugh, but hope he has deep pockets.

He's 24 & has dads telling him to get another corsa....wtf is he still in nappies??
1L Corsa to Evo will be at least 3x the running costs!!
Dont forget you need to do n oil change every 4k or something!!

I'd go as far to say if hes not really into Cars then he's going to absolutly hate owning an Evo!!

I was going to say the same as Colin. Someone whos put up with a 1.0 at the age of 24 is hardly going to be that interested in ACTUALLY GETTING an evo.
Its one thing to like a car, its another to actually take the leap to own it!

theres a lot more things to just buying an evo, my step dads got a evo 9 fq340 as a daily..
expensive service costs
high inurance group
needs a tracker on it (i would personally, and then you have to pay monthly or yearly for that)
high tax bracket
and the fact he does around 200miles to £60
buying one is one thing being able to run it is another..

most turbo hot hatches do that anyway. my focus did 200 miles to a full 55 litre tank.
i know grahams drinks like fuck aswell, possibly same with warrens, but thats more likely due to his style of driving
i wouldn't have an evo as a daily personally, it should be a treat for the weekend. could always buy a shitty corsa for the week (b or c) and get something nice for the nice weekends.

Running costs are immense, and the servicing is a killer. If it goes wrong, expect to pay big time. If he's going from a 1.0 Corsa, going to an Evo is definatly the wrong move. Parts arn't cheap and concidering he's only ever had to pay Vauxhall Corsa parts prices he'll be in for a big shock.

He's 26 actually
By the way this guy is minted lol... so as far as costs involved, that factor shouldn't really be a problem.
If you think the power leap is too much what else do you think would make a good compromise for £8-12k? To be honest, he's not a fast driver, he's very sensible... wouldn't see him wrapping it round a tree, he's never so much has got a parking dent. I think he just likes the looks of the Evo tbh

a seat leon cupra r would be a good compromise.
still pretty quick for normal people yet doesn't warrant the high running costs of the evo.

An excellent and wise option. If he's only going to be buying the Evo because of how it looks it would be pretty wasted tbh.
Or even a T5 Volvo saloon of some sort.

What about an M3 for your mate, you'll get a decent one for 12k if you look hard enough!!
Quick enough, a doddle to drive & returns 30mpg if you behave!!

if he has the money and wants to buy an evo for its looks then so be it? you said he likes the look of the evo so really why he would buy a cupra or a volvo saloon which look nothing like an evo is beyond me.
