Ok, I think I've decided I'd like a cheap convertible to pootle about with over summer. I fancy a vx220 eventually but until I can get a good turbo close by I'd rather something cheap and cheerful.

The 3 I can think of are an MX5, MR2 and a TF. I actually like the looks of the TF over the other 2 tbh but I know that is the least respected performer of the 3.

Any recommendations or other options?

Nothing to do with respect, backwards Metro Fs are fucking shite cars, end of. MR2 is slightly less gay but the MX5 is the better drive.

Mk4 Astra Cabs dont fetch much money these days.

Anything really, within reason, depending on the car. I'd probably even buy a 220 just now if there was a clean turbo nearby that I like.

I'll sell you a diesel astra for 10k

The options you've covered are about the best ones, anything else is either more expensive or more gay.

I quite like the TF's too

Hate MR2's. MX% is regarded as a decent "drivers" car.

The mazda for sure if you can get one with a worthwhile engine. Best drivers car in any case, although if you're considering the TF that might not be important to you

Boss has had various Saab turbos over the years and currently has a 2.8 version of the above. Nice looking and goes really well but the interior is pretty nasty. About a million buttons on the centre console and a bit too plasticy.

Otherwise very nice car.

cheap go for the mg, fun wee cars mucho cheapness! handleing was fine tuned by mark blundell and at time of there release there handling was praised a fair bit better than the old pop up light mx5.. oh get one that the hg has been repaired, iv got a mgf so maybe biased but iv had a it a few years now and keep it to play with in the summer as it goes with my purse and high heels

bit more money go for a newer mx5, better quality random interior bits wont fall off still a good looking wee car thats fun, a lot smoother and and less twitchy when driving hard or in the wet and quieter than the mg

mr2 not a fan of the looks and never drove one so dunno never drove an vx220 either so cant comment on that except to say when i did sit in one i soon figured out i didnt fit in the seat and that to get in or out was hilarious

any of the above and you will need a handbag tho!!!

Out of them, I would go for the MX-5 due to it being more of a drivers car. All depends on if you can live with being in a so called hairdressers car!

You should buy an old Saab 900 convertible
