Im looking for some ideas on how to get some more power out of my 1.6 sport, can anyone tell me

The best cost : bhp ratio mods they have done.

strip it out to loose weight which will make you go and stop faster, but also get some money selling the interior

plus if you remove the rear seats you need to get the v5 changed or you wont get it mot'd..

Best things are de restrict the air box and fit a pannel filter, after market inlet, full exhaust system, arp rod bolts then go for the re-map.

Ive got a sportex back box and race tube on the way and ive take the tubes and bottom cover off the airbox. Cheers for your ideas lads!

What exactly are arp rod bolts and how do they improve bhp, sorry if its a noob question!

Arp are a make, rods are con rods that attach your piston to the crank. They're generally stronger. They won't do anything by themselves. They're usually used to take the strains of higher bhp.

Cheapest mod is a free-r flowing air filter and exhaust, then remap to suit.

Where has that come from? No MOT tester has ever seen the v5 for any vehicle I've got MOT'd

My v5 says mine's got 5 seats, it's not it's got 2, it's still been through 2 MOTs like that though. It'll only be getting changed on my v5 when I change my engine, I don't see the point in sending it off twice when the first time will only be changing 1 number which realistically doesn't matter, it doesn't change the class of vehicle/tax bracket etc. so I'll get it sorted when I do the engine but I can't see the point before that.

The reason your SHOULDN'T be able to get a MOT is because the tester has to test the seat belts for the car, so if the car is registered as as 5 seater, the tester is supposed to test 5 seat belts, if you take the back seats and seatbelts out, then he will only be testing 2 seltbelts

But the tester doesn't know how many seats it's supposed to have cos he hasn't seen the v5.

The only thing I've heard from actually working with MOT testers, with regards to removing seats is that if the seats are removed, the seatbelts must be removed too.

yes it does really, if you still have the same BHP but less weight it effectivley increases your BHP/PT and also power to weight

Top reply for engine bhp.

Lightweight 15" alloys, strip out the interior for lightweight buckets. Fibreglass bonnet and boot with perspex windows.

Lowers weight, and improves bhp per tonne.

Depending on what stuff you go for and if its brand new or second hand, sometimes it would be cheaper to fit a C20XE in it.

e.g. alloys £300, Seats £250 each x 2 = £500, Fibreglass bonnet and boot £150 each x 2 = £300

Thats all £1100 for a few hundred pound more, you can XE it and have more power to start with

By far the most cost effective way for more bhp out the x16xe is replacing the very restricive inlet manifold for a 'powerbox'.

My totaly standard, high millage engine, apart from the above mod made 121 bhp on the rollers.

Don't know of any other mod for this engine which will give the same proven results for less then £140.

Where can you get such an awsome pefomance upgrade from I hear you cry? Just give me a pm as I've got a batch of 5 being made at the moment and should be ready in a couple of weeks
