Unfortunatly not, started pissing rain and the midgies were getting too much, so left it for tomorrow.

Not much to do though, fit the timing belt, intercooler, top up oil and water, then the bumper. Cant wait to get it going again

Dont think I need to run it in for the valve stem seals? Ill take it easy for the first few miles anyway.

Cole, has probably cost me £250odd for the timing belt, water pump, head set, bolts, plus the skim and rebuild.

So close to being finished, everything is on apart from the timing belt, shall explain the issue after some pics:

Dark, shitty pics I know.

Problem is with the timing belt, and the inlet cam.

First of all, cant get the fucking belt on, not sure if its the water pump on the wrong way or what, but I cant for the life of me get the belt on.

Its a good job I cant though, as the inlet cam is fucking up.

With the X20XEV cam, you have to retard the timing 1 tooth. I had it set back one tooth, but if I turn over the crankshaft, the pistons hit the valves! If I remove the cam locking tool, it knocks the cam into standard timing marks and turns over fine.

Obviously this is not good, I don't know what the hell I've done wrong, but isn't going to go. If I cant figure it out I'm just going to put the standard Z20LET cam back in, which is a pain in the arse.

are you turning the engine over with the belt on timed up?! otherwise yes the piston will hit if you have locked the cams up !

time it up with one tooth retard and put the belt on and turn it over

That could be it, maybe.

I had the cams locked in place, then noticed the crankshaft pulley was off its timing mark. Went to put it back to the marks and noticed the contact.

Shall try putting the belt on any see what it does.

Thats another problem im having, belt is tight as fuck to go on! Think I might have the water pump at the wrong angle.

Finally got her going, at long last!

Not totally finished, last thing to do is bolt on the bumper on the drivers side, but ive lost the nut thing that holds it, so need to find one of them.

Finished engine bay:

Just need the TX autosport tophat and powerpipe kit now, my current one is far smaller than the rest of the pipework so is bound to be restricting the system.

Shiney shiney

What smoke came off the turbo when it was first started up, was quite worrying

Notice a big difference with the inlet cam, big change in torque after 4k, very impressed.

Not been taking it too hard so far, dont know if the turbo/head gasket/valve stem seals need to be run in?

Won't be "better", it'll produce less power than the regal one but for BHP/£ its better. Unless of-course Regal are just selling on standard XEV cams?

Isn't the regal cam exactly the same as a XEV cam, except it can be set on standard timing marks?

I'm very happy with it anyway, didn't cost me a penny so all is well.

TX Autosport tophat and powerpipe ordered

Thats about it engine wise I think for now, always the option of VXR AFM, Injectors and 1.9 CDTI airbox later though.

Next jobs are get the side mouldings and front bumper sprayed, and some AP coilovers

Cheers buddy

Just a small update, taking the side mouldings to get sprayed today, also getting a quote for the front bumper to get done, as its pretty bad with stone chips.

TX autosport powerpipe is cancelled for now, they wouldn't give me the discount they promised me, so they reversed the transaction. Ill still buy it before the remap though.

Phoning today about getting the car booked in next month for the remap

nice one chris, have you sorted the low boost problem yet or you hoping that it just needs a remap?
