Phone the lad up asking if the car's for sale from a different number, telling him that you'll pay £2k above asking price. See if the keys miraculously appear. If they do, go round with a hunting knife.

How comes?

Genuine bankers drafts can be verified and when they are drawn up the money leaves the account of the person and is held by the bank in suspense untill it is paid in.

i cant remember exactly there was a scam knocking around. Can be cancelled iirc so can be verified they pick up the car etc then cancel/reverse it or something.

If a bank has issued a genuine draft (you can phone to check the number) and you confirm that the draft that's handed to you isn't fake, it's as good as cash, only the payee can cancel it.

It takes 5-7 days to clear though which is a pain, cash is better imo, just don't go yourself to the local cinema car park to do the deal.

accepting cash isnt safe as it can easily be fake notes

put them in the bank and lose the lot

i took 10k in cash once for a car, all bloody new £50 notes! Put £500 in the bank first to make sure they were legit before putting the rest in over a few weeks lol
