Got pulled by coppers last night and they told me off for delivering pizzas without business insurance, the other 3 driver's where I work are like 40 and they said they just rang up their insurance and asked to have business to cover them. But seeing as I'm 20, with 0 NCB, I don't think it'll be the same for me

Done some quotes online, even just changing my quote and it doesn't look pretty.
I'm with quinn direct insurance

Anyone had similar issues?

Just had a look at amending my policy, £120 extra to change my address..let me see about business as well

[edit] - well it doesn't say about business insurance but it will let me be fully comp dor £83.93 extra (I suppose that isn't too much to pay considering I'm covered against everything)

Does that cover me for business insurance though?

on the plus side, I've updated my insurance telling them that I have tints, 'wheel alteration', interior changes and 'light alteration', which cost me nothing extra

I may have to ring them up later then, if it costs too much, just means I'm out of work..can't afford it with christmas, not at all

You need to do some research, there is a certain kind of business insurance you need for doing stuff like that and normally its only a few quid. Cant remember the details though someone was telling me about it.

OK, if you or anyone else could fill me in on any details, that'd be great. The other drivers there said it cost them nothing to get it.

Its a certain type off business insurance you need for delivering food that includes (for hire&reward) so the people you work for prob aint actually covered for that, most places dont do it as its seen as a high risk because they seem to think you will be speeding about

Well, I just rang them (again) to enquire, they said they don't offer any business insurance for pizza delivery.

So I can either continue to drive it illegally and risk being bum fucked by the police or leave my job. Getting a quote elsewhere is totally out of the question with x-mas coming up..

*sigh*

Most delivery firms (take dominos) actually provide you with the correct insurance when starting the job.

I don't think buiness use is what you require (business use allows you to go to more than one fixed place of work, i.e say you work a local law firm but have to visit other offices in the surrounding area you would need this use)

@ 20 to even add business use without any ncb, you could be looking at a lot of £££, but if you inform your insurer of your occupation and what you need it for they prob wont cover you!! Your classed as unisured pretty much if you keep using it for work

I know

I don't work for a proper firm like dominos, I have in the past, I work for a local, cash in hand place so they won't have insurance for me.

Putting it bluntly: Your classed as uninsured and have voided your contract with your insurer (your using it for something that can not be covered).

well as far as they know, I havn't. I said to them "I've been offered a job and I want to see how much adding business insurance will be".

I'm only not covered when I deliver...but tbh, idk what to do, it's christmas very soon, i NEED the money to put food on the table, basically, there is NO way I can afford to get a whole brand new policy with somebody else now...total pisstake

Dont risk getting caught mate as you get shafted trust me the minimum penelty is £200 and 6 points the type off insurance you need is commercial business insurance that covers you for delivering for hire & reward, there are places that deal in it but its not cheap, best thing to do would go to a place like dominos that cover your insurance, pay might not be as good but least your covered

Im sure you could get another with somwhere that covers insurance these places are always looking lol, if not then your going to be running about with invalid insurance and risking your licence and what if you crash into someone? your not going to be covered.

Nah, he followed me for ages so I knew he was gonna stop me. I arrived at where I was dropping the pizza off, got out the car with it in the hope he'd just drive away, then he asked me if I had business insurance, he let me deliver it then I sat in the back of his car for a while.

I told him im not sure whether I have it tbh and he checked and I didn't have, he just told me to get it changed and also get insurance/license address updated.

Wasn't thinking to be honest.
Also home was about 2 miles drive...by then they'd have pulled me over anyway

with a red delivery bag and loads of reciepts in the car with addresses on, prices and what they ordered?

Besides I saw the same car drive past outside where I work earlier in the night, so they got me on purpose.
