I'm going to chuck a Post 97 Bumper onto my chariot. The Irmscher Splitter i fitted to the Pre-97 isn't to my taste atall, so its being sold on

I've read of people finding the all-grey, unpainted >97 ones difficult to colour code, namely, prepping them, over an already painted one.
Are they really a pain?

Or, would it be wiser/easier to wait for one to turn up painted or already in my colour?

I've already been waiting a few months...

Nothing to do with oils??? Never heard that before!

Simple reason is because its a textured bumper, where as a painted one is smooth.

For example, when you want to color code the tops, you have to sand untill all of the texture is vertually gone, then prime over it to make a smooth feeling like the lowere painted section, so if you got an all grey one, you would have to do this on the bottom half (or all of it if you wanted it all painting) Obviously its a large section of bumper to be prepping. Just depends if you can be arsed doing it yourself.

Not saying they will flake, if its painted and prepped properly it wont flake, but unless its been primed a lot, and a good few layers of paint, you can sometimes still see the texture of the bumper.
