Same as when Vaux ditched GSi etc. WTF is VXR? Wank, thats what it is.

As said, 106 and 205 are the only real GTi's IMO.

cars got too heavy...

206 gti / 207 gti = failure as the power is nothing special on its own, but when combined with the heavy weight they're bad.

The manufactuers that have kept up, have balanced the heavy weight with large power - Focus ST / Astra VXR / Megane F1 etc.

306 GTi was the last true GTi IMO. Maybe the 206 GTi 180 but even that was a bit tame.

None of the Golfs are true GTi's

The latest GTi models such as 206 GTi 180 (as mentioned) have all been tamed and not what you would expect from the Peugeot GTi name. I think it's a big shame, but if the RCZ is anything to go by then they're going in the right direction.

P.S. Anyone think that the 208 RCZ looks pretty much like a Mk1 Audi TT with 308 front end?

End of an era. Mind you its an era that died with the 306 a long time ago tbh.

As said, after the 306 GTi6, they never produced a decent GTI model. 206 GTI 180s are very poor imo.

I think 306 GTi-6s are massively overrated, people say the 206 is heavy but the 306 GTi 6 weighs in at an almighty 1215kg compared to a 206 GTi at 1040kg and a 180 at 1100kg.

I found the GTi 6 very slow in a straight line compared to a GTi 180. I'll agree that the latest offerings from peugeot were watered down somewhat and the 306 was more "exciting" in the handling department.

I think the 206 GTi and GTi 180 are very underrated cars and get a lot of bad flak by people who havent driven them or people who read evo magazinge. I find my 180 great fun on a twisty b road, its quicker than my old saxo VTS and 205 GTi, can cover ground a lot more quickly and have just as much fun if not more fun.

Nothing Peugeot are making these days is nice anyway, we have a 107 at work and yes it's just a base model but my fucking god is it bad, there isn't one thing I like about that car. I actually feel embarassed driving it. I wasn't overly impressed with the 206 either tbh.

My dad has one, ive found its quite dull to drive really. Doesnt seem like it has 180bhp anyway, my brothers old cammed 106 gti was faster, and my yellow 16v XSI wasnt far off it.
