My car is taxed for 11 months but pay the insurance monthly.

I want to take my car off the road for a few months while i build up enough cash to trade it in on a new Civic Type R (don't want to take finance).

Can i stick the car in Mum's back garden and just cancel the insurance due to it being still taxed and not due an MOT until next August?

I don't want to declare the car off the road. Just re-insure it when i take it in for trade.

Fair enough, 11 months tax is abit of money towards the car though.

I may get £90 back now but still going to need to tax it when i sell. So, i may get £90 back now, but still need to fork out £65 when i sell it. cba over £25 in all fairness.

Can I or can I not just cancel the insurance now, inform no-one else, and then reinsure the car when i need to use it in a few months? Car does not need an mot as it's under 3 years old.

Yes, as long as the car isn't on the public highway you can just cancel your insurance.

Also I thought the insurance was pennies anyway?

How many months is it going to take you to save up?

Just sell it now!!

£400 a year Colin and just renewed.

I'm looking at getting something else next summer around May. Be going new again Know it's a bad idea but will be kept and kept mint with low miles.

The car is advertised at the minute but doubt will sell - hence trade as an option. Been offered 4.8k for it but i can get that in 6 months on a trade. Currently worth 5.5k all day long in my eyes!!

Theres no point on gods green earth pro keeping a car sorn'd for 7 months that I can think of!!

Its not mint its got high miles and a few scraped & knocks according to you.

Just get rid of it if you dont need it. Its going to be an expensive ornament lying around & you cannot foresee px prices....what if the used car market takes another bellyflop & its worth 3k next spring.

I really do hope your next jobby's a hedgehog!!!

What if it got broken into? Set on fire? Vandalised? Stolen? No insurance to claim on then.

Its just a liability to you. If it gets stolen you've lost everything. If you're getting poor offers now, what makes you think you will get more in the future? If the value of your car is going up, buy 10 of them and store them all.

Sell it or keep it, but don't store it in your garden uninsured.

I'm going to take cs's advice here and not keep it uninsured. Will be put in the back garden tomorrow / cleaned and get it advertised on Piston Heads and see if i can get a decent price given it's age, history and motorway miles. End of the day it's only worth what someone will pay though.

Working on my mate to do the body work for a couple of hundred quid Get it mint again.

It's the longest i've ever kept a car and deffo the only one i've driven so much.

Nothing bad will happen to it at my Mum's - there's generally always someone in / two barking mad dogs.
