I need your eyes!

This is abit of a strange request, but i am after a Dell Inspiron 531.

This is a discontinued product and no computer companies i have tried can get one and/or lend me one.

My only joy so far is a place in Wales that can get me a bare case at a cost of £250+, or another firm called overstock which have a refurb for £221. My customer is not willing to pay more than £50 for a case/machine that will only be scrapped after we have done what we need to do.

I do not need to buy one (though if need be i might have to) but all i need it for is to get some dimensions off it!

I have contacted Dell (UK/India ) but none either understand what i am talking about and/or cannot provide technical drawings (the measurements i am after are not listed in the manual for the machine)!

So, does anyone have one of these in their home/office that i could possibly measure (or get you to measure)?

Can anybody help?

Looks exactly the same as the Vostro case I have at one of my customers

Do you know if the case is the same size as the Inspiron?

And do you think they would let me measure it?

Why do you need to measure it? I'd say they are definitely the same thing I doubt DELL would manufacture two identical looking cases with different dimensions.. Infact you can use the 5 1/4 bay covers as scale and measure the pictures if you can find two from the same angle.

Yeah looking at those now i'd say they are!

The outside dimensions are on the net so i'll get those and check them against each other!

Whereabouts are the CD/DVD trays on these machines? Are they in a set place from manufacture or can they differ (theres no chance of one being added after purchase in this instance so not worried about mods after production)?

My dad has the silver one that Davey posted, he has one built in optical drive and multimedia card reader thing. CD/DVD drive is in the top slot with a flap in front of it, and the third 5 1/2" bay on the front is a sliding cover.
