well some prat decided to put £40 of petrol into his diesel car then drive a little untill it started smoking and stopped *twat* whats needed to get the car running again? apart from drain the petrol off

Drain tank, drain filter, chuck some diesel in and off you go..

If the car is fairly new then be prepared for an astronomical bill for repairs.

Why?? We do drainages all the time and never had one come back needing a pump yet.. It really is as simple as draining it and refilling it.

£40 is going to be about half a tank on that then? How much diesel was there in the car before re-fuelling?
On modern diesels the danger of knackering the fuel pump, filter and injectors is pretty high with a mis-fuel. You could try draining the tank and bleeding the fuel system then re-fuelling with diesel for starters.

Never done it myself, just did a project on it once. Was lead to believe it caused big problems fairly often...

Depends what engine it is and if it was running/how long.
If you run petrol through a new CR diesel it's probably gubbed.

It can do but its over hyped.. Very rarely see any side effects.

tank was more or less empty before hand

Drain it, replace filter, fill with diesel and bleed the system.
I've managed to put a few quid of petrol in nearly every diesel car i've had now lol

As Kano has said and I'll second it, it doesn't do too much damage. Couple of weeks ago in work we had a 3 series that the guy told us he had done it to, was just a case of pump out and tank drained and filled back up again - I asked the other guys how many of these cases you see, they said too many but it rarely means anything too terrible. I think it's a case of the engine just stopping working before it can do too much damage.

I do one a week at least, work for Green Flag so we basically pick the car up from the side of the road wherever its cut out, take it back to work, drain it and there on there way within the hour. £150 lighter though..

We had a taxi pick is up the other week.
A nice Monday TDCi. Except the daft git had put £20 worth of petrol in it. He had already driven about 2 miles on the diesel in the fuel lines. Then when he restarted when he picked us up, it was lumpy as anything and had no power.
He managed to get back to another petrol station, with it stalling as he pulled in. He filled up with diesel again, but it wouldn't have it from then on in.
No idea what happened to him. Another taxi came and got us.
Was mildly hilarious though.

ive put £20 petrol in then realised and put £20 diesel in and it was just a bit hard to start sometimes and a bit slugish n smokey until it was empty then filled with diesel and was fine.
and ye am4nf it is far worse putting diesel in a petrol.

Drain tank, change the filter and fill it up with diesel then just burn off the remaining petrol from the lines etc
