I have just phoned to cancel my insurance for my van, because my insurance has just started for the 206.
when i phoned to tell them i wanted to cancel it i understood they would need a cancellation fee, but this is surely a joke......
because i pay it monthly and the total i should be refunded is £230 or something, but the amount i am due is £280 something , i am due them £50 odd , then 10% from insurance company + their cancellation fee £50....
total they are wanting back
£130.........
the insurance was only £260 ish.
i started swearing and going off my head at the smug litle wench , and told hjer, fuk it i will keep the insurance running then and keep paying you your monthly installments, then with that annoyin phone voice they put on (( i was getting extremely pissed off by this time!!) she said that because someone else has the van it will be illegal for me to do that.
They politely got told what i thought of them and there service then clapped the phone down.

Wouldnt it be easier/cheaper to change vehicle or is it different for vans?

well their quote they gave me was rubbish for the 206 , thats why i never went with them.
Their service has been pish since day one!
My insurnce ran over from the vetra for the no claims, because i forgot to cancel t, so when i was down working oshore/offshore in Oz for a couple of months they had sent me letters sayin i was due them money, £22 , but because they recieve it they cancelled the policy, so i had a month+ the van wasnt insured , didnt no until i checked a back statement noticeing they had paid £80 odd into my account and i phoned and asked. so i then lost a years no claims (which i shouldve had 5 in sept) and wont get 5 till next year now

Mad how they can give you like 14 days to respond then just cancel isnt it. Not everyone works 9-5 in a flippin call centre!!
I had Virgin media wanting to take me to court over an unpaid bill they though I was dodging when id just been at work.
As for the insurance, as crap as it is I dont think theres much you can do as it will be splashed all over the T&C's which they know nobody reads. Just badmouth them to everyone you know & hit them harder in the pockets that way. Thats what I do whenever a company pisses me off, just make sure you tell everyone!!

If you pay it monthly how come you are due cash back? I dont know if Ive read it wrong. But why not just cancel the direct debit, after a while they will get bored and just cancel the policy wont they?

when i sold the BMW it was going to cost me 100 to stop policy
so i swapped it over to some random corsa 1.0 down the road and let it run for 3 months @ 15 quid a month or so

When you car insurance monthly, you have effectively signed up to a loan for that amount.
A finance company has paid the insurance company the amount of your policy, and your repayments go to the finance company.
As you have now cancelled your policy mid-way through, the finance company won't be making the same amount of profit (your APR charge) that they originally thought, so will be trying to claw some of it back.
If you don't pay it, or cancel your DD etc then you're defecting on a loan repayment, and it's very likely your credit rating will be marked because of it. Ultimately, they could take you to court.
