OK, just had my Insurance renewal through... called up Direct Line (my insurers) to find out the deal wrt moving to Ireland.

Basically, I want my car to stay registered in the UK for a coupel of reaosns ( a) tax, b) VRT ) but be insured in Ireland. I will bring it back to Wales to get serviced/MOT'd etc. to stay compliant in order to get insurance/tax etc. and use my parent's address for these matters. BUT how do I get it insured in ROI? Direct Line have said if you spend the majority of the time out of the UK then they won't insure. Do I just need to find an insurer who will insure me over there or is there some other thing I need to do to get round it.

PS the options fro registering in ROI are paying €1300 a year tax and €3500 VRT ie. Get tae fook! Option B is t sell it and id rather not

When I was with endsleigh, they gave you unlimited insurance abroad for up to 90days at a time. But I guess that doesn't really help you

loltax:

There must be policies that allow extended euro cover?

Failing that, just don't tell them - how often do you come back

While on insurance but not worthy of a new thread (sorry Robbo).

I have my bell renewal through with my driving other cars extension still on it (i'm under 25), but I technically don't have the car anymore (long boring story) and I had to phone them up half an hour ago.

If I renew that policy I keep my driving other cars, if I take a new policy out I don't get it until I'm 25, just to clear up for anybody else in the same situation.
