My dad very kindly said he found some of my savings from an account he set up years ago. £400 big ones in there 'QUALITY' . Well as the modifying funds are at an all time low atm, this is a little bonus, abit of cash i havnt had to work for and can just go and waste on my car.
I havnt started doing any engine mods to my car yet so i thought this would be a good place to spend the cash.
I have already got a pretty sorted exhaust system so i dont need anything to do with that.
Think im going to buy one of those inlets off 'Flame' for £138 seems like some good reviews, Just fancyed your opinions on what i should do with the rest of the money to get the most power out of it?
What would you buy?
Cheers, lookin forward to some of these replys

Inlet plenum would be a good start and maybe some mild cams if you can find some cheap enough.

Ah right i get you i call them inlet manifolds lol.
Not sure whether i want mild cams, or to save up for some more expensive ones.
Would there be much difference if i wur to pay for a Re-map after fitting the inlet? or will i notice the gains anyway?

You wouldn't need a re-map after just fitting an inlet manifold and I wouldn't bother until you do major engine work, I haven't fitted the inlet I bought off flame yet as my engines are still in bits but I have read the reports in his thread and alot of people have said there is instant gains.

Think its a must for that then. Need a new headgasket first though Suppose i could get the head re-vamped while its off, skimmed and ported etc?
Been looking at those Dbilas flowmaster air intake systems, not sure whether there worth £200 tho. Total Vaux quote a 12bhp gain, Cant see it being that much myself but tbh 5 or 6 bhp from a filter system would satisfy me.

I'm not the most knowledgeable person about engines so someone with more knowledge should come and correct me if I'm wrong, but opening the inlet ports a bit, skim and inlet manifold should see a small but decent gain.

i can say they give a very noticable gain. and on a x14 they will be more noticable than on a x16
i would thin about buying the one off flame but the problem with his are they are a bit bendy and a git sometimes to make them seal propperly, so try the VX performance ones off the bay they are 7mm thick box section and 12mm thick plait at the end so much more beefy than flames, and they do add around 10 to 15bhp depending on the engine's health
also i woud go for a set of newman cams 264's as they are about the biggest cam you can run on standard pistons. and they will be inhanced with the inlet
but as you say the heads off, ether send it to philip2 on here and get the head ported and matched then plonk it back on and it will give gains aswell..
personaly i got a spare head atm and im trying to get my dad's mate who builds high powered yank engines to do the engine work but if that falls through then its going to philip2
hope that helps

If it wont seal....Weld the fucker on i say! Im going to look into the cams i think. What are your view on this Flowec airbox from dbilas then?
On the presumpsion i had-
-Intlet manifold,
-Headwork,
-Cams,
-Flowtec Airbox,
-Full exhaust system,
would it be worth buying one of these Unichip piggyback ecu's £350? been looking at the powergain they give from standard engines and its quite good. Loads of customisable areas on it, Raise the limiter to 7-7500?
Cheers lads

not to good getting unichip as its a preset ting, better off getting a custom map done which will be done to the charactoristics of your engine

if you want a good map, raise the rev limiter ect. Dastek do a good piggy pack ecu. i had it when i put the new engine in my car. the car was alot more responsive and picked up the revs quicker.

A dastek unichip is not preset tho. It can be mapped once fitted and the limiter can be set where you want it up to 12,500rpm I think

Ah right will have to look into it again then. Whats the safest i can raise the limiter to without touching the internals?

no one knows what their talking about on this thread. get one of those ebay inlets if you can afford it, spend the rest on a 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, decat, straight through centre pipe and a decent backbox

first reply was cams. for the cost, and without a remap theyre not all that. secondly someone else said a unichip was a preset chip when it isnt. yeh im coming across as a cunt but i dont care. some people dont knwo what theyre talking about

nothing on a 16xe tuning wise is all that, unless you go down the itb route.
your supposed to have a remap when you put an inlet on because they work better with the rev limiter raised. otherwise your not gaining that much
