i have just heard of a mechanic that the MOT law has just changed, any one with an after market exhaust on there cart, the exhaust can not sound any louder than the standard exhaust would have otherwise it is an instant fail!
i dont know how this will work for xe corsas though
anyone else heard about this?

Yeah, and the minimum driving age will be put up to 18/21/25 at the same time too.
Urban myths, all bollocks.

Surely they test it, not just take a quick ear to the exhaust ?

Sounds like nonsense.
What's the basis in the law, a ferrari can make a lot of noise because it did standard, but a micra has to be quiet because it was out of the factory?
no logic...
If they brought it in it would have to be a standardised guideline... so that say it's done on engine size. it'll never happen though.

A tester can already fail it if he deems it as being to loud, i cant see it hapining that all aftermarket exhausts would fail, well i hope not

Yep, mine failed on my exhaust wording on fail sheet was something like "exhaust is louder than a standard system in reasonable condition".

Manufacturers sell alternative exhausts for cars when you buy them new as part of upgrades etc. This would put an end to all of this of true.

Do they have the equipment at the mot station to test the noise level? also what would they do to oldddd cars where maybe this data isn't available?
