what is it they actually do to lock them out is it not something that can just be welded up or bodged up i dont fancy paying a grand for it or can you buy the stuff to do it yourself

On landrovers and that for proper off roading, some people use a pneumatic system which jams a cog with a big thick pin with a pneumatic piston, so I imagine just welding up that cog with make it permanently locked.

its that acumalator thing i dont get i dont see why something couldnt just be welded up to make it permanent 4wd theres one on ebay at the min for 20 quid might buy it and have a play

It probably can just be welded, but they use a pneumatic thing so they can drive it home again, because with a locked diff it makes it 50/50 torque split which makes it harder to drive normally I think.

yea i know that it would be a bit shit to drive all the time locked but it would still have the diff in the box and the rear axle working so i dont know

If it's permanently locked, when it breaks down you'll need to be able to get the prop shaft off or have it taken away on a flat bed too. Not really a major problem, but it would be messy if you forgot...

with out the center diff though it would just bind up whilst driving if locked in to 4x4. I did it to my vitara, by driving it in 4h permantly. The front n rear wheels need to be able to rotate independantly of each other

My old Cali turbo had a locked transfer box.Was bought from Wallace Performance tho so dont know what was done to it to lock it.
It launched like a motherfucker too,but still span the wheels a tad in the wet.Was awesome.

Yes it was completely locked and the accumulator bulb was removed.

and it didnt drive funny or anything. If thats the case then il weld the clutch part up somehow or put a solid plate in it
