What bhp can you get? and are they reliable?

Basically I've got a 1.0 12v atm and its really slow, tops out at 90mph on my private air field and I was thinking about a redtop but I've heard and seen to many of them breaking. So whats the best the 16v or 8v?

16v anyday. just look at chrex build...
16v is newer and more powerful. any engine needs to be looked after and it will be reet.. also it's been done to death for a reason.

I'd say the only reason you see more 16v's 'breaking' than 8v's is because it's a more popular conversion so there's more out there.

A shit 8v conversion will be just as bad as a shit 16v one. Same reasoning if they're good conversions though.

If you want an 8v engine go for the C20SEH option as it as a greater bhp to start with: 130bhp i believe

The 8v engine is vertually indistructable and will do stupid milage, but the red top was built purley for power and is easier to tune

End of the day: spend loads on a 8v and make 150bhp. or spend a little on a 16v and make 170+~

i have spent alot of money on mine...and i am getting a 16v, but that is only due to the cost of the rebuild i wanted for the 8v bottom end coming to the same price as the engine i'm getting.

As a daily usage engine, its brilliant. The torque is there straight away from about 1600rpm, meaning is a superb drive if you dont want to rev. However, above 4k on a standard cam...it cant be bothered.

The 20SEH (there was never a 'C' version as it wouldnt pass emission constraints even with a cat) is the better engine...so try and get one of them. They were in mk2 cav SRi's and the astra GTe mk2's.

Does depend what you want. Mine has taken a pounding, and thats what i love about it...because it hasnt let me down once so have been extremely pleased.

C20NE, machine the pistons (very easy to have done), T25 turbo, Megasquirt management and you've got something quite interesting
