24mpg
im pretty damn pleased with that
book says 18mpg and thats with the currently shitty conditions of the M25 roadworks. Average speed however is a mere 27mph
still running it in but can already feel the gearbox loosening up a bit
am sooo chuffed with the VXR8.. certainly puts a smile on my face, which is what matters really

On mixed driving my 2.2 Omega only ever returned a 27mpg average. Its amazing that a V8 can be better.
Makes me want a Monaro even more than ever

Running it in?
I thought new cars didn't need to be run in? I thought driven hard from the go was what you were supposed to do?
I could be wrong and thats what you have to do with the VXR8, i dont know

needs to run diff run in for a bit.. says in the manual (yes i read it) that it needs minimum 1k miles and not to take it over 70mph for longer than 15mins per time for the run in period

The tollerances are so tight in modern cars I think its better to just give them death from the start to make sure the rings bed into the honing marks as good as possible.

its supposed to be the best way to run engines in The reasoning behind taking it easy is to alow all of the moving parts to 'wear in' but modern manufacturing technieques and oils mean this isnt really needed and there is also only a finite amount of time that the piston rings get to bed into the hone marks on the cylinder walls before they have worn down, if they are not bed in properly by the time the marks wear down they will never bed in and therfore the seal will never be as good as it could be meaning you get more fuel contamination in the oil which increases wear elsewhere.

bet you can't wait to get past the 1k mark and floor it everywhere i didn't run mine in at all, didn't see the need as i have warranty, so it's had a hard life but a few problems (nothing really engine related)

Dosnt the LS3 engine shut down a couple cylinders when cruising to save on fuel?
