are they as much fun to drive as everyone says?

i bought a black H-plate 16v 3 door at the weekend to use whilst the corsa is off the road - i'm really looking forward to driving it having read what people think etc

130bhp, 950kg ish... does that sound about right?

well everyone bangs on about the valver on e38 and i couldnt see what the fuss was all about, it felt slow, sounded wank and didnt handle any better than my lowered corsa.

Ive had a couple 8v's, but never drove a 16v. I like them but there a bit old for the everyday battering I give my cars

handle well though colin?

people tend to rave about how they go round corners, having had a corsa that has trouble on anything other than a flat road, i thought the golf might be a fun daily driver

Very direct steering feel & good feedback unlike a lot of modern cars with over assisted PS.

I take it yours has PS that works??

I love them, like I said I had to sell the last one because the daily drive was too much for her!!

Would love another one with a SC'd VR6 lump or a 1.8T

Had a few of both.. Personally prefer the way the 8v's drive. My 16v had 190bhp though so was good fun. handling wise there pretty crap standard but a decent set of coilovers and tyres and your done.

had a k-jet 16v mk2
i have a jetta mk2 8v now. just putting mot touches to it,

seems quick enough.

if the 8v isnt set up right, it wont feel quick.

I thought the handling was bob on as far as 'straight out the box' goes. Esspecially as their what 18-19yrs old!! Handled better than my corsa GSi on a suspension kit & that was only 4-5yrs old when I had it!!

Only been in one with a VR6 engine and on coilovers. It did handle well. Also went pretty well and sounded good funnily enough
