It doesnt shut down It does log the amount of use though for warranty claims.

Sounds a bit off if it just shuts down....I wont believe that!!
What I read was if you use it more than 'X' Amount of times then any warranty claim regarding a fried SMG box is null and void!!

That might be what i read mate  I think it was somthing along the lines of it needs resetting by BMW after 3 runs..

Thing that slightly bothered me about that is how the hell do I know if/how many times its been launched before I bought it
What happens if the box needs replaced and ive bought it in good faith with a warranty. Risk you take I guess..............

Well.........been no trouble so far (6 months) touch wood 
Hopefully the next 18 months before I sell it will be as painless

It's not rocket science, you said it was pointless, the whole point of it is to get a good launch. So i'm asking you how it is pointless trying it out ?

It is a fast car, and i agree it doesn't "need" it, but launchs far better with it on there.
