I think it's time to sell the clio, just bought a house and looking for a car a little cheaper so i have a couple of k as backup money for the house

I've been looking at Civic Type R's, not messing about with any of the english ones though, the older shape

Looking at an import, either an ek9 (insurance is silly though) or an ep3 import (insurance much more reasonable in comparison to ek9)

I know a couple of people have owned them on here, but what insurance companies specialise in import cars.

I'd have an EK9 over an EP3 just to be different, plus I prefer the shape...

I agree it's more different, but there aren't many white ep3's around here, actually none

Don't want to be spending 8k on a car every fucker has got

for some reason, insurance companies want 3k excess on an ek9, compared to 500quid on a ep3

There are 2 white EP3s around my area (that i know of), but then again there are also two white EK9 Type Rs

I guess its all going to come down to the ££, and in which case the EP3 will probably be cheaper to look after.

That's the user i was trying to think of

Just done a couple more insurance quotes, and it turns out the ep3 may be too much on insurance, but admiral have done a good quote on an ek9

Yes, it is alot, but they don't appear to be depreciating much, you can pick up a 2002 ep3 uk model for 5k, i know they can't depreciate much more, but thats why every body has them

Surely it's a downgrade (in terms of gadgets and accessories) in comparison to you're clio?

The EK9 is a bit quicker than the ep3 too

*clears throat*

I'm insured with elephant for my ep3 import, and the ek9's are alot cheaper to insure than the import ep3. Try them

Pro's and con's in my experience are

EK9 pro's

Amazing handling out the box. Great to throw about. Can import some tidy ones but you need to pay big wonga for them. Rare as never sold in the uk. Well specced for the age of the car.

EK9 con's

1.6 is underpowered, b18 conversion or engine work is worthwhile. Alot of shaggers about, beware! Becoming popular with little arseholes, similar situation to glanza's. Spare parts can be expensive like interior pieces, body panels etc due to the amount of civic folk wanting bits for their vti's etc.

JDM EP3 pro's

Rare in white, newer, comfier, all the ones i've seen have been mint as its people prepared to spend the money who have them. Faster out the box than the ek9, also nice potential for tuning in the uk due to the amount of uk spec ones.

JDM EP3 con's

handling not so good from factory, but easily sorted. Steering isn't as sharp as ek9's. Its a breadvan and you still get slagged for having a common car Dear insurance.

Money wise, depends on the year of ek9 you're after. Pre facelift and facelift are both available, its really only cosmetic differences, front end, centre console and lights really. Prices vary, but you get what you pay for, try http://www.fastjapcars.com thats where i got mine, be prepared to spend around £6000-£7500 for the right car.

EP3 you're talking £9000 for a good one. Usually around the 52 plate on the imports. Yet to see a facelift in the uk, as theres no model report for it.

Anything you wanna know u2u me, going to bed

On the road they're similar, the ek9 maybe edging it a little (compared to a uk spec).

I've found the jdm ep3, dc2, ek9, s2k all very very similar in terms on performance.

Yeah it's a downgrade, but that's what i'm after, i want something that i will enjoy, and i always said i will own an ek9, which will also leave me with a few k in the bank as backup in case the house costs me too much and i struggle, bad months etc

I love the clio, sounds good, handles well, and looks excellent (imo) but would like the cash in the bank at the min

Cheers martin, i've seen a few for around 6k, some fresh import facelifts also for that price, look in good condition

Want the car for a year or so and then move onto an ep3, i'd possibly prefer the ep3 now but 1200quid more to insure than a uk one is a joke for pretty much the same car

And also over 1k more to insure than the ek9

In your situation i'd go for an ek9. If you do please please beware when buying, there are so many shoddy accident repaired imports coming in through "reputable" dealers its unreal.
