My drivers side front spring makes a funny noise when i turn the wheels. Not sure if this is the same problem as yours.

There's a bearing which should turn with the strut, this would squeak if its seized or collapsed.

If its when you drive, I would be thinking more about bushes and joints than the spring as such.
