why do they need it to be smaller? If its cheaper and quieter then thats all good

Prefer originals looks myself, alway thought they looked classy

As they have to extend the life of the PS3 somehow before they bring out the PS4 - and this is a natural extension strategy.

Bring the original out to appeal to the general gamers and those who will tend to buy gaming machines. Then bring out this new model to attract to those who havent bought one - as a blu ray player, etc.

I still don't get it.

Old ones £229 with 1 game posted. (killzone + controller, play.com)

New one £250 just a console.
Smaller and 160gb Drive. WOW!!
Its only a little bit smaller in length.

Old one's will drop in price when the new "slimline" is out to

If it was the same price then it would be good, because lets face it this a 3 year old console now and now they are going back up in price

Will be a super slimline, does the same job only smaller £300

Although Sony stated they were around 33% smaller, in photographs they only really seem smaller in height. They don't look much different in width and actually look longer in depth to the old "fat" consoles.
The new 160GB hard drive doesn't seem that important either as the old "fat" models were so easy to upgrade anyway. My original backwards-compatible 60GB console is now ~500GB and working perfectly. I've yet to read if the new "slim" uses the same 2.5" laptop HDD for upgrades?

They do use the same hard drive which is still easy to upgrade.

The main reason for this is they made a loss on every single console sold. This one is much cheaper to manufacture and there's the bonus of something new. The ps3 has a 10 year lifespan so it's got a while to go yet.

I always thought the original was too big. Might get a slimline if they do a good bundle for them

Add the little stand and it will be pretty much the same height standing up.
The new one in that picture is wider by about 2cm
