Hey Guys,

Just want a quick poll, im currently learning to drive and want a vauxhall corsa as my first car, im learning in a diesel car.

Diesels easier to drive, cheeper, better fuel consumption.

Petrols better performance (enough said lol)

So Petrol 1.2 or diesel CDTI?

Thanks
Jade

1.3cdti is a mcuh much better engine than the 1.2.

Apart from the price (equivalent diesel will be more expensive) the diesel wins hands down for me.

not that simple

depends on mileage you do,

and also bare in mind they cost more to buy in the first place, and the fact the repair bills will be dear if it goes wrong as more advanced systems over petrols

Depends on how many miles your going to be doing.

I do 10k year, so I wouldnt have a diesel.

However when I done 30k a year I did.

But in this case and out of the two engines, the diesel is the superior.

Make sure the 1.3 if you get one is in the £35 tax bracket, to make it super cheap to run etc.

Consider the mileage you're doing though. 1.3's are holding their prices really well compared to 1.2's.

The 1.2 in the C is a good engine for round town, I drove my grandmas about for a bit and I quite liked it, although can imagine a long journey would be shite.

I like diesels though, and as said should keep its value well, if youve got the money to buy a decent one I would go for the 1.3

The 1.2 in the C is a good little engine, had one for 2 years and didn't get bored of it at all. Still very good on fuel, I got something like 40mpg however I drove it so wouldn't be too fussed about the extra economy of the 1.3 since it will cost you a lot less to buy the petrol version.

Ok thanks guys
All your opinions are great!

Another question about the diesel CDTI, someone told me recently compared to a petrol you cant do much mods on a diesel for example dump valves ect..
Is this true?

dump valve on diesels sound shit anyway.

sounds like a pigeon.

you can remap a diesel for good gains and do all the other usual mods.

why bother with a dump valve, they sound shite lol, it wouldn't go with the tractor sound either haha.
As Ben G mentioned, you can remap it and not only get better power/torque, but better mpg is quite likely as well!

Agree with Warren, I'm not a fan of the 1.3's and they aren't that reliable either.

I was under the impression the only problem they really had was the turbo's tend to go?

But I thought this was only in ragged 'pull' car versions?!

But try and find a decent 1.3 CDTi SXi+ (which is the best model to have tbh) for under £5000 - it's near on impossible. 1.2 or 1.4's however, are a bit easier to find.

I had trouble finding any 1.3cdti's under 4k at all, and the ones I could find had sky high mileages and or bog standard spec - then I bought the sri lol

Power delivery on the 1.3 is awful. Quite laggy and runs out of steam at higher rpm to quickly.

I'd drive both, as you can see, many differeing opinions.

I find the diesel a million times better to drive than the petrol.

I've never noticed any lag either, it's not as if the turbo is massive.
