dont think 1k will get you a good spec, you'd be using most of that with just the managment, buying tb's on top of that would push you over 1k and then the cams ect on top

yeah, you'll see more gains out of the 1.6
you could sell your 1.4 for the same price as a 1.6 anyway.

the money ive spent on my engine's i could have bought a let engine. its just the fact that insurance and running cost go up, and it depends what your going to use the car for

My 1.4 with Mantzel, 4-2-1 and cat back system (need to put the decat on though) will probably just be as quick as a 1.6 Sport and that's quite a bit of moolah worth!

For £1000 you'd get the LET, and maybe an F28 if you're lucky. But it's adviseable to rebuild before sticking it in to save a few potential problems. Really you're looking at at least 3x that amount to be done properly.

With those mods, Pete_vxl's 1.6 got 129bhp on the rollers. A damn sight more than my 1.4 will have But then you've got the cost of the actual conversion!

doubt it would cost more, as i said. you could most probably sell the 1.4 engine for the same price as buying the 1.6
once my engine is run in im going to get mine rolling roaded.

my spec:

fully rebuilt by RCS.

c16xe head
x16xe bottom end
arp conrod bolts
dastek ecu chip
raceland 4-2-1 manifold
genuine mantzel inlet manifold
sportex decat
ashley competition system 2 1/4 bore
de-restricted and drilled air box with k&n pannel
10mm motorsport leads
iridium spark plugs

theres a reason theres so many xe's and let's

xe is the best performance to ££ upgrade to do by far.

for a grand an x16 youll probably get, cams, inlet, port and polish, manifold, exhaust, enclosed air filter...

thats about it tbh

Don't even think you'd get that Unless it was second hand cams and a custom inlet (Non Lexmaul, Mantzel).

XE or LET.

only way id stick with the small block now is:

1. insurance/age

2. all out track car when building a mega spec track car(i.e corsa or nova)

fully rebuilt xe with ported head, new pistons with deeper pockets, full balance will be about £1300. inc all bearings, gaskets, machining etc

potential then for decent lift cams, carbs etc

Are the infamous X18XE1's small block? That's probably the only small block I'd stick in a Nova/Corsa now, and it'd have to be on TB's!

1300 is alot to spend on a xe that is probably going to be put in a corsa with rust, let alone labour costs
