The car in question:

http://www.corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=512654

Thats the beast. I'm after a MK4 Golf Turbo... I've been to see/drive one and want it. The Golf I've seen will be put on the trader unless I can get the monies together for a set date. Thats fine if I'd have sold the Corsa! I want to put a deposit on but he doesn't want me to until I can definitely give him a collection date. I understand where he's coming from, he's a nice guy and I don't wanna mess him around and the car is genuinely the best outta about 10 I've viewed.

I am gonna have to face facts that the Corsa is "overpriced" as I aint had much interest... I don't wanna give it away as I know how good a car it's been and I stupidly kept too good a record of what I spent on it (about 3k total even though a few bits have been taken off, lots for a Corsa and for me in general!). It's annoying as people at other ends of the country are selling Corsa's for the same money and doing so quickly! But it seems being stuck in the middle isn't a good place to be.

So, I need to seriously think about my cars price... and the minimum I should take. I guess I've had it for 2.5 years and depreciation obviously takes its toll so, what do you guys think I should put my asking price at and what to take as bare minimum? It drives quite well I think for a Corsa and I've driven plenty. And it's STUPIDLY reliable lol I can't believe how lucky I've been with it. I'm reluctant to "give it away" but... I've looked at a fair few Golfs now and this ones the best.

Cheers y'all

Ask for a grand be prepared to take 800?

Dont loose the car you want for the sake of a couple hundred quid!!

Also the amount you've lost on it in 3 years is very small compared to the losses of others.

Chin up, get it done & onto the next one!!

No way would I sell it for 800 quid. Surely it's worth more...

A couple of mates have recently sold theirs.. a really dog rough bag of nails GSi with an XE in it for 1200 quid and one sold a minter but standard N reg for 950 and I can't understand why I'm getting offered less for a potentially "better" car.

800 quid sounds so low to me, no way could I do it to myself

Also a point to take note of is the Golf I've seen is not "cheap" as such anyway. Well, it is and it isn't. 2250 I've agreed, its had lots of work done, enthusiast owned, silly things changed most people wouldn't ever consider really and yet thats only 6 months newer than my Corsa and has more miles. I know they're worth loads more but it's bad enough it's a grand more haha

mods can put people off, insurance can go up and all sorts of shit. I'd put it back to standard and sell the modified bits on here.

Thats one thing I was thinking of really. I've got a standard back box and maybe I could get some 3 spokes, I think it'd be too much hassle swapping the suspension really... I could get a middle pipe for cheap but it'd probably knock on the back axle like days of old.

What are you after for it ideally then?

Like I said if its only a couple hundred adrift then take the hit to move on, ive done it loads of times.

Counting mods etc I lost about 6k on my golf in the 1.5yrs I owned it, but I really wanted the next one so done what I had to!

The wheels are fine mate IMO.

Its just stuff like

- De-restricted and drilled airbox
- Powerflow custom exhaust centre section with reduced silencer
- Magnex back box with oval 5x3" tail pipe
- GMax SuperSport uprated and shortened shock absorbers
- Gmax SuperSport 60mm rear springs
- Custom uprated 45mm front springs

Standard box, have you still got the std suspension hanging around? not hard to do and easily a afternoons work with the right tools and a mate.

See people seem to drop on bar me lol.

I've not got the standard suspension, I sold it for 30 quid... for that price I should have just stuck it in the shed and forgotten about it until now really.

I think ideally I'd take 1100 minimum to get rid now before I miss out. If it wasn't for wanting to move on and my age (28 - bit past it for a Corsa now) I'd keep it for reliabilities sake but as said, sometimes we gotta make the jump

personally, I wouldn't pay you £1k for it, it may be a sport, but it's high milage. Looks good condition though tbh considering the age. Good luck with the sale, when I think about selling mine I often over-estimate the cost too because I think how much it's cut into my pocket over the years.

800's not really that much different to 1100 is it? For the sake of 300 quid i'd lower the price and get on with it and get your new car mate.

Pic's of the 1.8T plz....

I sort of see your point but I can't afford to let it go for under 1100 really, I'm skinting myself as it is haha I'll have to live in my overdraft for a few months if I can get the Golf.

It's on ebay at the mo, last time I looked only 2 more 1.6's were on there. One being a shed, one being a standard but ok looking one and mine. Mine being the 2nd cheapest of the 3. The standard one being the most expensive.

This is the Golf (I know the colour is marmite but I could go on all day about stuff which has been done - new engine mounts, poly dog leg mount, poly rear axle bushes, loads of R32 interior bits, remapped, loads of history, lowered, just loads of stuff.. window regulators replaced, all the common bits that fail have been sorted "just incase")

I just sold my friends Corsa, 1998 so a bit older than yours with 60k on the clock, pretty much immaculate for £850.

you say things with the golf are 'just in case' how do you know they didnt actually go an he had to change them? you need to think about that as well. but you seem to have your heart set on it. Get the corsa up on ebay for 1000, some one might come look at it an offer you 1100 to end the auction early, thats what happened when i sold my corsa to get my current golf, although i sold my corsa 1.4 sport with 56k for £1600 in Feb, good luck.

Have to remember its still a 10 year old car.

I'd have to agree with the concensus that £1000 and then be willing to be knocked down £50/£100 or so.

Lovely car though.

Kurt, it's on ebay as a classified ad, it's on here, pistonheads as a normal cheapo advert and about 10 other predominantly vauxhall forums. Just put it on gumtree too.

The dude who owns the Golf is about 35, he's a sergeant in the RAF and a bit of a perfectionist by all accounts.

I generally believe him with what he's told me.. obviously I expect the car to have had some of the common problems throughout its life but if it saves me a job too then why not?

i told you it was worth about a grand when you were trying to flog it at £1500 youve got to be realistic

cheap wheels & suspension mean nothing. people need to stop over pricing their cars.

800 is doing well. Where do these massively unrealistic valuation thoughts come from?
