Been looking at a new car for a while now, vauxhall being the obvious choice!
Started looking at corsa sxi's but even with the 1.4 engine I fear it would be too slow in comparison to my current corsa!
So then started looking at higher spec models,
and the question is SRi or VXR?
personally dont like the styling on the vxr and the higher insurance group puts me off a little bit, BUT would I be an absoloute idiot to not spend the extra 1500 on getting the extra 40bhp and other lovely goodies?

Hmmm..
Thoughts opinions and what not please..

my opinion you would be stupid not to get the VXR if its 1500 extra.

VXR in silver looks quite subtle, so maybe the colour could be a compromise?

Depends. If it's only, for talking's sake, about £500 to get the extra 40bhp through a remap and new inlet or similair (not too sure, think the SRi is just a de-tuned VXR though?) then that's a grand in your pocket. But then a VXR is a VXR, and that might make a difference to you.

The price is more than warranted. The amount of extra things you get over the SRi makes it worth it by a long way.

Better suspension, bigger brakes, more power, MUCH nicer looking (although you said you're not too keen), bigger nicer wheels, 1000000x better seats, resale value.

Aye, I wasn't too sure what extra kit you got. Sounds worth the extra dough for that lot though.

I wouldn't waste your cash on an SRi, you will regret it.

Just wait until you can insure the VXR.

Waiting isnt really an option, will be taking advantage of the scrappage scheme, which runs out in Feb. And the VXR insurance wont be affordable until may EARLIEST. May see if I can test drive an SRi. Booked a test drive in an sxi, more to COMPLETELY rule it out than anything else.

You will wish you got a VXR. The money you save on insurance will be spent trying to get VXR power levels from it.

The car is £1500 cheaper, the insurance is £1000 cheaper, that will leave £2100 left after a remap which will give it 198bhp, more than VXR power...

That money could be spent buying the brakes and a few other bits.

I think the SRi is a wiser buy.

Yeah, in the unlikely event that mods are declared, it would be an issue

I've ALWAYS insured my mods!
and if i'm spending circa 15k on a car I would not be such a fucking idiot to invalidate my insurance!

15k on an SRi? You can get VXR's brand new for that.

Trust me you will regret it, massively.

My bro just got the sri because he couldnt afford the extra for a vxr. He loves it and also picked up a vxr front bumper for £90.
