As above, need to know how you did it?
Degreaser + Jetwash?
Steam clean?
Acid Bath?
Need to get my block to a paintable standard with no messing about really and not quite sure how to do so yet.
Edit - what paint to use to paint a block?

hot wash/parts washer, wirebrushes/wheels on die grinder to get all the flaky paint off the block.
alot cheaper than acid dipping.

In the process of doing mine at the minute. I used gunk, mainly the paint on version then the spray can one to get in any hard to reach areas. After a few coats of that it came up pretty tidy. Then I used a dremel with various wire brushes to strip off any lose rust etc. Steamed cleaned it after that and its pretty much spotless now ready for paint
Hope that helps mate
Edit: Im using high temp engine paint that I got from Halfords to paint mine

Subaru, VW or Porsche at a guess...
Acid dipping is pricey, I think the only place left in the UK is in Dudley too: http://www.surfaceprocessing.co.uk/

Because it's a boxer? I'm assuming it's Scooby then, as per his sig. I never knew they looked like that - where are the other 2 cylinders?

tbh if you were doing that you'd be as well buying something more abrasive than vinegar I'd say.

Just saw his project in his sig Where are the other cylinders; on the other side! After all, you did identify it as a boxer...

Aye, I knew that Scoobys and some Porsches had boxer engines, was never actually sure what it meant though. Learn a new thing every day and that.

Yes its a subaru boxer. From an early RA. Its closed deck (closed water jackets for strength) with under piston oil squirters. If you take a look at the below pics you can see the water channels around the cyl jackets for coolant

This is the base for my 2.1L 500bhp engine build. Just need to make a start
