As some of you may know, my 2nd cousin designs and builds racing cars.
His last creation was the GWR (Graeme Wight Racing) Predator, which looks and sounds like this!
Well, for a while now, he's been building a smaller, slightly tamer version which he has called the Raptor.
Its first outing is scheduled for tomorrow at the Fintray hillclimb in Aberdeen. I'll be going to watch, so I should have some pics to add to this thread tomorrow.
The engine is a purpose built 1600 cc Hayabusa which has been dyno'd @ 250bhp.
The carbon/honeycomb chassis tub weighs in at 19kgs.
The sidepods are 1kg each and the engine cover is 2kgs.
The whole car weighs in at 260kg, so by my calculations that gives it 961 bhp per ton.
Here are a few pics I found showing the progress of the build...
I don't have any of the finished article, but as I said earlier, i'll be sure to get plenty tomorrow

His mate has given him a hand with some of it, but he makes most of the moulds and does the carbon work himself.

I was just watching this video:

How come he doesnt use solenoids for the gear shift? I know its extra weight but surely the time saved would make up for it?

He makes a living out of it, but he probably sees it as a hobby/passion.
Its what he's always wanted to do.
I'm quite gutted. I've had too much on this weekend, so i didn't even make it out to watch it race.

The car in the video has an Arrows 3.0 V10 with 650 bhp and it weighs 420kg, so its got a power to weight ratio of 1547 bhp per ton, so the new one really is tamer

I found a pic of it from the weekend...
It did really well considdering it was a brand new car out with its new owner.
It was only a few hundredths of a second off the fastest time of the day.

By any chance does that car hold the top speed record at kames sprint circuit? As I know it was a car like that with an arrows v10 engine.
