Don't want a VXR?
I have a (lower spec) Golf at the moment - very nice to drive and well screwed together, would recommend one.

But I'm sure you can haggle it down at least £500 if not a grand to get to your budget.

Have you been in one? The interior quality leaves a lot to be desired to say its a VW.
They look nice from the outside

Don't do it
I tested the new Mk6 and it was a pile of horseshit.
Don't believe the hype.

i'd go for an astra vxr personally. the fact it's a polo trying to be a golf (looks wise) puts me off.

I've just realised its a Polo GTi
Never driven one but they are very bland, can be mapped well like all VAG cars but it is deffo no better than your Astra.
