£5 when i was 18-20, but for £5 you could probably drive 100 miles
£5 these days, lucky to get 50 miles.
The Astra fuel gauge/trip comp doesn't even register more fuel unless you put £10-£15+ in

Credit Crunch. Maybe she was borrowing the car and topped up what she thought she had used. It was full when she got it

perhaps all she could spare until pay day is £3 to get to and from work. You don't know anyones circumstances. It's unbelievable how judgemental people are.

I put a fiver in the Astra the other week, but there was a reason behind that. I was driving down the A127 and the light was flashing and I had to put fuel in to reach the Tesco at the end of the A127 to fill up with T99.

I tend to fill the tank to the top on mine, on my brothers B the pumps keep cutting off so it takes forever so I usually give up after about £7 lol, luckily 1.0's don't use much fuel anyway haha

The minimum 2 litre bit is because most pumps can't accurately dispense less than that (allegedly).

Just a tosser instead? I've put a fiver in before. I've also put less in before. Reason being that I went to fill it up, and realised I'd forgotten my wallet. I didn't want to risk going all the way and back with what was left so used my spare change to get me there and back safely

If she couldn't afford the car then surely she wouldn't be putting petrol in it?
If you don't like the UK, ...........

And you must be the opposite of a tramp... a snob by the sounds of things.
I've put a fiver in plenty of times, as said by others, to get me to work for a day before payday or the like.

I've gone to put fuel in before, but just after i started i realised i only had about £3.89 on me and i left my wallet at home, so i stuck in £3.50, paid for that, then came back 5 mins later and filled up just so the employee at the petrol station didn't think that was all i could afford

I put £5 in sometimes, i get 70 miles to that in my corsa, never put more than £10 in at once. If i filled up id stick my foot down more knowing ive got plenty of petrol, whereas £5-10 a time i go steady and make it last.
We had a BMW 1 series courtesy car the other week and we had to take it back with a full tank, as we had only done a few miles it took £3.20 to fill it back up....like others have said you dont know the circumstances.
