After being inspired by Top Gear and a search for cars on PH for under £2.5k I came across a 1986 Porsche 944 in black.
Am I right in thinking these are terrible cars that eat children and rape pandas?
For £1500 I'm thinking it might be worth it (plus I wanted to own a Porsche before I'm 25 and I've got a month to do it ... )

Buying a Porsche with 152k on the clock IS a little daft. Isn't it!?

great cars get one with history if you can milage isnt an issue to them, iv never seen a s2 like on top gear for under 1500 if i ever do im buying it classic car insurance is pennies try peter best insurance mines was 252 fully comp when i was 25 on a 2.7, oh and im guessing its a 2.5 8v your going for around that age if so dont expect it to be that quick as there only about 160brake and even porsche engines lose power over the years

Its an S2, 2.5 non turbo I think? They want £1750 for it but I could probably knock them down a bit!
I'm not bothered about it being fast either. Not sure they were ever designed to be were they?
Classic car insurance for day to day?

it isnt a S2 its maybe a S1 bumperd up like a S2 ? S2 was 1989 onwards had bigger bumpers (same as the s1 turbo) and more noticably a 210 bhp engine
yeah they were in there day the baby model came with 160 bhp not bad for a car coming on 30 years old
yeah you can get it coverd that way i was only thing that may fuck you up is milage! most insurers only cover 2000-8000 miles a year
a S2 looks like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LCRN3RIidss
(any excuse to post my fav 944 video advert really)

nice enough car later spec oval dash, change the wheels and it would make a huge difference to the looks! chassis is galvanised so just check it for crash damage and any wear and tear! milage really isnt an issue to these cars its not unknown for them to hit 200- 300thou easily and a few have even burst the 500 tho mark on original engines! service parts are dirt cheap!
try it/one see how it feels!

I wouldnt bother with a 944 unless its a turbo but even then theres something better for them money.
Your buying it just for the badge

Hmmmm you've got me stumped there.
Will it not be expensive if/when it brakes?
For 1500 fun car id get another Mk2 Golf GTi. Ok its not a porsche but its good fun, looks great & can fix them with your eyes closed.

same can be said for any old car be it a cossie m3 etc etc people buy them cos they have a soft spot for them not cos there the best car for the money

Yeah but unless an old Porsche enthusiast I dont know why anyone would buy one unless thinking their only train of thought is 'wow great a Porsche for peanuts?'
I mean woul this guy be entertaining it if it was badged as something less?
Old M3's & cossies cost a bit more than 1500.
944 turbo would be a good buy, but if I got one it would only be because its a porsche.
I know you like them lots, im just saying my opinin on someone buying a 1500 example

i think you missed what i meant there i know they cost a lot more but same thing still applies - better cars out there for the money... hence why i also added the etc etc on other cars, cmon did you seriously think i was compareing a 1500 quid base model 944 to a m3 or a cossie in terms of like for like cost
like i said people buy them cos they have a soft spot for them anybody that buys 1 just for the porsche badge may as well go get a 924 as thats cheaper and then they can do all the arorake chat that it was the 924 that saved porsche (im not even a fan of them)
i do like them i had mine for 3 years, gotta say pretty much problem free driving in that time! i had to change the battery, it needed pads i think for one of its MOTs (was by far the best car iv ever owned come MOT time , and the last thing was the handbrake fucked up cosing the rear wheels to lock up
only real thing the guy can do is go see it and see how it feels, its condition etc
me personally would i have another - yes but it would have to be a good condition turbo in white again (same colour as my old one)
like this but the 9 grand price for a 21 year old car would stop me tho
