just wondering really
i was looking into getting a VTS engine but im not wanting to declare it and ive come to the conclusion thats just silly!
wondering what i can do to make my VTR a little faster other than the obvious things so far i have come up with:
Strip out(lose back seats and what not)
Decent tyres(tracking it not draging it)
it has a BMC CDA so theres not much point changing that as loads of people rate them.
Good service
might consider cam'ing it but the cost is a bit much atm
Would running it on higher octane fuel increase power or is it all bullshit
any other ideas(Turbo,Superchargers,Nitrous,Throttle Bodies are reallly out of the question lol)

quick edit
has a magnex backbox with a decat but has a silencer, no reason to beleive the mid box would affect performance though

Do the things you do to every N/A engine.
Without lots of money you can't do much really.

Head work
VTR engines respond VERY well to some head work, with a 4-2-1 and decat, CDA and some good quality fuel a service and you should see circa 130bhp from a nice torquey 8v lump. VTR engines as standard aren't great, but with minimal effort can easily give a 16v a run for its money!

tbh as its only 8 valve i dont expec much in the way of power but more throttle response would be nice etc
basically any tips to make it able to handle its self respectably on the track against similar things

get the head off and get it ported and poslished by someone who knows what they're doing.
I'm a member on the ax owners club and you can often pick an 8v manifold up for less than £100.
Speak to a few guys on there regards 8v tuning and take a look at martins VTR turbo bit of a weapon!

over on saxp the genral feeling seems to be dont do it as you will only regret spending money on it to make it as fast as a vts.
Might as well just save up and do it or buy one.

Dont waste your time, just got for the VTS lump, will be much better. Easy to see 150bhp out of a VTS engine.
