A panda car pulled me over earlier for going 'a little' fast down a road, they pulled me over and gave me a producer for insurance certificate and licence (I only had my card licence on me).

I thought they had stopped doing producers now cos they can get all the details in moments?

They can pull all of the details up, but this way, you're inconvenienced by having to take the stuff to the station. It's a light deterrent.

I never carry any documents with me, apart from my card license, only because its in my wallet, and my AA card which lives in the car anyway. It really isnt worth the inconvenience of losing / getting stolen / getting burned insurance documents and paper licenses, IMO

Ive always been advised to not keep docs in the car incase its nicked, as the theifs will have all your details except your bank details!

I just thought it wasn't common practise these days to use producers

I got a producer (also 3 points and £60 fine) for speeding on Valentines night.

The producer was for my license only as i didn't have it on me. I had MOT and Insurance Doc in the car but he said he didn't need them, he'd already confirmed it over the radio.

I though well why don't you just check that i hold a license over the "radio too" so i assumed it was simply to cause me the inconvenience.

UK Law says you must be able to identify your self to a police office so they can have no doubt as to who you are, if they doubt your identity you will be arrested.

As for your driving license and documents you just have to be able to produce them in a reasonable time.
