was thinking about doing the bike license during summer both since i'm almost done with restoring a BSA and also cause i've always wanted to do it but never got down to it.
since i'm over 21, i can get unlimited cc so would be able to drive anything from a scooter to a hayabusa. obviously a hayabusa as a first bike would most probably be a suicide. I tend to prefer naked bikes and sport ones.
the question is, what first bike should I look at?

Get an R1 for your first.....
I Jest. If you've never really ridden a bike before, then i'd stick with a Suzuki Bandit 600, Suzuki SV650, Yamaha FZ6, Honda Hornet 600 and those kinds of bikes as a first time bike. Theres plenty enough power to have fun, but also the insurance won't be expensive so you can build up that no claims bonus

only drove a Honda RB250 till now. I was thinking of something between 400cc and 600cc since even the leaner bike is a 400cc (Yamaha XJR400), so it wouldn't be that much of a step up.

DizzyRebel - i don't think that a gsxr600 is the best first bike. plus insurance would probably be a killer on that.

Inurance isnt as bad as you think, plus id rahter learn on a capable and nimble handling bike than on a wonkey donkey of a bike like an SV or bandit!

You thought about the 400c sportsbikes options?
VFR400, CBR400, ZXR400, RVF400, GSXR400 (etc).
400cc is very quick if it's a sportsbike. I saw 137mph on my VFR400RR and I thought it was a great first bike. It'll also get you used to quality handling and prepare you for when you go to a 600cc sportsbike.

400 is an excellent first bike. But most are getting older and not as reliable.
ZXR400 and VFR400/RVF, love them though....

cheers for that xaos. my only concern with the 400s is that they all seem to have something i don't really like at the back end :S

The ZXR400 is growing on me. you can find some that aren't even 10years old. so not too old. and with a couple of mods they come out really nice

Off topic - you speak better English than some of the members on here and you're not even from the UK
