Ibiza TDi. Should be able to get a decent mileage facelift for that price.
£120 tax a year, Group 7 or 8 insurance (for the PD130) and I've been getting 65mpg round town lately

What has being cheap to run got to do with purchase price?

Fabia vRS is along the same lines as the Ibiza, some people prefer the looks of the fabia.

Could get a brand new corsa 1.0 for 6k as well.

Budget price has nothing to do with cheap to run.

Ibiza isn't at the top of the new supermini £25 tax 55-60mpg band really is it. Infact, the PD130 engine is one of the most juicy 4 pot diesels I've ever come across.

I'd be looking at Clio 1.5dci's, Cosra D 1.3CDTi's and Fiesta 1.4TDCi

I got roughly the same MPG in a 1.3cdti as I did in a PD130.

Totally depends how you drive. I never get close to manufacturers figures.

Why not? Thats what I would consider a fair chunk of money so why not spend say £5k and the rest on more tax/fuel over the next year?

Was getting round about 40 in both, slightly under 40 in the fabia when it had been remapped.

If you want a cheap run around you would assume they are not doing many miles so why not just buy a CHEAP car that isnt super efficient and just not use it very much?
