Was offered a Punto GT for quite cheap off a mate local to me. The car has a few problems which I was told about... leaky radiator, knackered starter motor, some cosmetic damage from bad break-in attempts. Generally needs a good tidy up.
Yesterday I borrowed my mate with his trade plates so we could get the car back as it's got no tax & MOT yet and on the way home we ran into a bit of trouble
The car was dead when we went to collect. The dead starter motor and flat battery meant a bump start with the aid of a booster pack. Got it running and it stalled at the main road. We decided to bump & boost again, but this time leaving the booster under the bonnet for the short ride home.
All going well until we got stuck behind a doodery old coot on the dual carriage way & the engine started to get a little hot (because of the leaky rad). We decided to pull out & overtake, when this happened!!

Gutted! And talk about shat my pants!!!
Damage done can be seen in the pics below... just aswell I have a mate who's a panel beater by trade and his mates a sprayer, and another mate that does windscreens
(not very good pics as they were taken on my iphone)

Anyway, lots of work to do on it now... first of all I want to get it fully road legal. Needs the radiator replacing and the interior tidying up. I used to fit alarms for a living, so going to give the entire electrics a going over and fit a nice new alarm with a few tricks. Maybe keep the smooth doors, but not sure yet. If so, I need to do the boot too and sort out all the solenoids & a backup way of entering the car.
Once I'm happy with the car running and security etc.. I'll source the panels I need and get it booked in for a full going over with my mate, possibly a re-spray in burnt orange (always loved that colour) I want to put the standard GT door & quarter rub strips back on and standard rear lights.
On a nicer note, I sorted the starter motor out that afternoon... took it off, stripped it down to find it was just jammed together. Cleaned it all up and got it moving again, re-lubed it and back together and it works a charm now
Then we fired up my mate's BBQ for a little relief from cars....

(burgers needed a bit extra heat....)

Here's to owning a punto again!
I'll let him know...
It still needs some work, he's got an alfa badge to go on it and the lower grills. I think he should tidy the wings up a bit and fit some nice alloys heheh
He's also got some LEDs fitted to the lights on a small battery for night time which looks pretty cool... I'll try get some pics next time I'm working late on the GT

Cheers mate! Do you mean parts for the BBQ, or for my Punto?
He built the BBQ using parts he salvaged from work. He's a panel beater at an insurance approved body repair centre in Bolton, and they throw away panels for the slightest marks in favour of new He gets his pick of the parts that are destined for the scrap, so one day had an idea.

The same as what happened for the other 95% of the journey... nothing We weren't travelling at speed, and the bonnet was on the catch

Not had one but I wouldn't mind a car to mess with if you know what I mean? The RS6 is no good at all for that at all and someone mentioned an R5 on here the other day and I have re-fallen in love with them!
Yeah. nothing smooth about the boost delivery on them old turbo nutters!!! The way it should be!!!

It's crackers Stu. This one's running standard boost and still makes me laugh like a silly school girl when it starts to spool. It's nothing but daft fun when it's going, I remember now why I blew my old one up so easily
