If you have this option on your policy, are there any limitations as to what other vehicles you can drive?

i reckon the limitations will only come into it if you crash. reading through my insurance it doesnt say there is a valuation limit anywhere but id imagine there is.

i dont think there is any limitations as most of the time if not all the time your only covered 3rd pary. so if your mate lets you go for a spin in his 911 turbo and you stack it your gonna be painting his shed for the next 300 summers.

You have to have the owners permission and it has to be insured by them

Have to read the small print I'd imagine. Usually there's a price bracket and also usually not commercial vehicles.

There probably wont be any limitations as there not giving you cover against that car only 3rd parties, so yeah your probably limited by whoevers willing to give you their expensive car to hoon around in without it being covered if you smash it. I know I wouldnt be comfortable driving a car worth more than a couple grand with the understanding that if I crash it im going to have to either leave the country or find some way to pay for it.

I drive jades car & my old mans occassionally & im down as a named driver on both, if I wasnt id not be too keen on driving them!!

usually you need to ask for it to be added, & if it doesnt say then you've not got it.

Ive not got it & im over 25. I had it a few years ago tho when I was insured through direct line.

Just make sure the car you are driving is insured by the owner.

So does it claim off yours or the owners insurance?

What happens if the owner gives you permission to drive it, and you have the term in the contract saying you can drive it 3rd party, but the owners insurance states no other people can drive it!

Its abit of a grey area if you ask me. There is 19 yr old lads running around here with audi tt's, fiat coupe turbo etc doing this. They insure a little 1.6 hatch back, get their parents to insure it, and drive them this way.

I think its shadey tbh!

I had it at 19 on my VR6. Then they took it off for renewal but I bought a mk1 golf the other day and that policy has it. Its quite handy at times.
