They do break down a fair bit but thats down to shoddy electrics and sensors from the transplant usually. However I had one and would have another anyday over a fettled 1.6

Wrong, in real life I would argue that an XE is a good engine, I would back it up with evidence and not go out on a whim and make stupid claims. In real life, in an argument about the merits of an XE, I would win, aswell as this 'not in real life' internet one.
