The rebound adjuster on one of my rear shocks is stuck on maximum due to rust, and I've been told that soaking it in vinegar would get the rust off. Would there be a chance of it getting into the shock at all? That's the only thing concerning me.

It's the same as the ones on the right of this pic:

As you can see in this pic, it's pretty rusted

So yeah, would it be alright to submerge it in vinegar?

Yeah as the vinegar won't affect the rubber seals so will only target the rust.

See here for a guide http://corsasport.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=491735

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

I really wouldn't recommend that tbh, the gas inside will explode if heated. and the heat will wreck your seals.

Tried both of those, Barnshaw. WD40 makes no difference and heat gun just made the metal softer so I squashed the adjuster a bit

Cheers Ste, I'll look at that now

That's a good guide mate It definitely won't get inside the shock at all though will it? That's the only thing worrying me about it.

I might be able to at the weekend, need to work out a way of getting the bottom of the shock into a bowl without taking it off of the car, because the nut on the top was a nightmare
