Ok so minus the car, whats a kinda realistic price for building a LET corsa?
I wouldnt wana stick a 120k mile let in to take it out 2days later so would probably rebuild the engine.
Are we talking...
Rebuild
Mounts
6spd
Exhaust
If you have one, how much did yours cost? spec?

to rebuild just the engine(no turbo) based on being able to re-ring and not having to have crank ground/block bored or pistons will set you back about £800.
ive just priced up an XE and thats about that (cant think off top of head)
then turbo if went with the stock cast manifold prob about £300.
you say best to go out and buy one done...tbh matey, there are some very hard faced people who will say its had this and that done, and when something goes wrong you find out its not.
dont know if read total vauxhall, presume so. the mk4 astra with the VXR lump in, the lads dad whos been in RR shootouts, garage features other month etc...seems gen enough. my mate had a Zlet fitted, ment to have arps, vxr turbo, reground cams etc, whipped sump off, nowt, rocker cover off...fook all. and TV are saying hes good. he conned my mate.
moral is if want to do it right then spend the money and build it right

Yeah thats reading way. I've heard nothing but good stories from that guy.
Regarding your first post, your very true in some aspects.
I bought a fully re-built bottom end off ebay. We changed the water pump & oil pump, 3000ish miles later the ring in cylinder 2 has gone .

i know what you mean about hearing good things. but id put my house on it, my mate bought the engine on the gaurentee that it had the arp rod bolts, turbo, cams etc. when we took the engine apart because the turbo shit itself..also ment to be spot on, sump was off, no bolts, no stamp marks or anything on head either
i do alot of engine building and mainly headowrk on the side. and some of the things ive seen would make you laugh. but as we know its very hard to build a reputation, it takes one person to tarnish it

I can back this up,As i got totally shafted not long ago.I bought a Head of some Lad on Mig Web (Wont mention names) And he said it had Cams and had been Ported & Polished and ive just found out that it hasnt.
So dont do what i tried to do and save Money by buying something already Done as it will come back and bite your Arse off.
Just do it all yourself,That way it will be strong and you know its going to last Etc.

mates just cost him about £6k engine side.
rods, pistons, tub mani, exhaust system, i did all the head work, dual springs, solid lifters etc etc atb dif. standalone ecu
thats a GEN 400bhp. some of the figures ive seen from some motors are way over what they should be with lesser spec.
but phase 2, fmic is a good reliable coombo without going for forged internals.
if can hear the engine first and get it checked over before you get it, you could build a corsa LET for about £3kor so

I'd buy Pickfords engine which has had some serious pennies spent on it and it has a pretty well specced head.
Just stock up on looms and various sensors too
